GPS Jammer Monday 28th April 2025 (Cumbria) Spadeadam

Im currently flying drones and learning for my A2 Licence. I am using Drone assist a mobile app needed for flights and checking no fly zones.

Looks like theres going to be a trial GPS Jamming Exercise at Spadeadam. Wonder if it will take out Car GPS too ? Interesting

Talking of ‘drones’ … Its said that the modern helicopter has its advantages over a drone ?

Hi dave you well ? Model helicopter or a real one ?

Interesting. Obviously L band is going to be line of sight, so the jammer would need to be airborne to cover that area. Maybe worth checking ADSB data on the day to see if any aircraft are “loitering”.

What’s the A2 licence? I did the stupid online thing for my DJI Mini, but didn’t look at licencing beyond that. I must admit, it kind of upsets me that you need one. I used to build and fly balsa RC aircraft as a kid, and now that’d be illegal without paying for a licence. Progress, I suppose.

Yeah it will be intresting on Monday. So the new rules of the drones, and I some what agree with it a little, you pass an online exam you do for free online. Prepare for the theory test | UK Civil Aviation Authority

You can then fly a drone under 249g with certain rules. If its under 249g theres alot more freedom.

The A2 is a certificate of competency which means you can fly closer to people and fly heavy drones with the same rules as under 249g

I have a drone here i got in 2015 when you didnt need anything but its a big Dji Phantom 3 Advance. Cause some damage if you got hit with that.

I suppose they had to do licences for them cos of prats crashing them into planes and stuff.
