I get messaged quite alot and forget whos messaged me offering what
Anyone whos building nodes or got some kit available to donate to us all to get the meshcore network better than it is, put it in this chat. surely we all have spare kit lying round and we could all chip in and get these repeaters put up on the mountains etc.
Anyone with built repeaters with solar etc, where do you want them? some of us like going up the mountains, one of us could take it.
Awsome Mike, see if anyone else takes them with the aim to build repeaters out of them, if no one does ill get them off you and start mass producing haha, but if others see this and are going to use them to build repeaters before i can get to it, then take them. I wont be able to get anything made up now for a few months.
I have got some kit already as well.
Thanks again Mike I hope someone takes them and gets them put up round the hills of Cumbria and Scotland
If they’re Heltec V3’s they’re going to be pretty poor as standalone repeaters. It might be better to make up some nice low cost companion radio’s and offer them to land owners in exchange for permission to put repeaters down on their land.
Got 10 radios on the way. Some are going to be Rock repeaters and I’m open to suggestions on what to do with them. They are all designated as donations to the mesh.
My 3d printers are busy now making the next batch of rocks.
My First rock is with Richard XGO and we talked today about placement of it to try to improve the link north of Whitehaven. My second rock is now complete and I want to use this to provide a link south to Egremont.
Trying to strengthen the link north east a bit so between cockermouth to wigton to carlisle area from the north fells would be a solid goal to try achieve.
I have 2 solar power ‘boxes’ from Dave Pegler that I’ve never quite managed to pull together into solar nodes. Happy to add these to the list of kit. They’ll accept either v3 or v4 Heltecs and just need a bit of hardware to make them useful, Or they can be powered off 12v to help with the on board 18650’s
St Bees common has had a node on it before for APRS and it was pretty useful, but it will need something very stealthy to avoid nosey farmers. Other than that there’s always a well placed node off cold fell that would reach nicely. Grike or Crag fell are useful but very busy. North side of lank rigg is rarely visited, as is the north west of seatallan.
Happy to help with deployments is stuff is sufficiently stealthy/disposable. Matthews APRS node was active for a good 18 months before it got eaten by sheep or some clumsy feet
