GB7KSE now operational

Ok, big day - GB7KSE is now up and running fully - 25w output on 144.925MHz AFSK 1200 baud

If you fancy having a go (bear in mind I live down a hole) you’ll need a couple of bits of software (or one bit and a hardware TNC if you’ve got one and the cables in a cupboard

Software:

The first one is a modem, it modulates and demodulates the noises in the right order. But is can only do this. It needs something to tell it what to do, i.e. a terminal programme, which is the second one. They can be a bit fiddly to get your head round but they are no harder that setting up FT8 or any other digital mode.

What is on the node?:

GB7KSE is connected to nobody via RF at the moment. Hopefully that will change, but it is connected to another node in the south GB7BDH, which also connects to Whatspac (WhatsApp for packet). It is also connected to VE7QBZ for now, just to test stuff out.

There are all sorts of commands to get your head round this cheat sheet is really handy. Feel free to poke about, its unlikely that you’ll break anything. Above all welcome back to 1989.

Think of it as Meshcore/tastic/whatever but with 25w and good old VHF

You reckon a PC with Direwolf (software TNC Modem) and say a digirig setup would work as a way in for this?

Well done @g7kse

Yep, it’ll be fine. A bit more faff than the Qt stuff but all do-able. You’ll still need the terminal (or at least a terminal that will work with the modem). There is a bit more info here if you need it

Hi @g7kse ive managed to rebuild cumbriaCQ in HTML ive added the packet repeater. anything else you want added ? GB7KSE Packet Radio Node - CumbriaCQ UK

site loads much quicker…long live static sites

I’ll write a fuller access and use set of notes once I’ve fixed one of these non functioning TNC’s. I think I need a PC with a proper serial interface..not this USB malarky

I like the map btw. Must work out how to do that some day. You could add 144.925Mhz 1200baud AFSK to GB7KSE. I’d like to add a node to the club as well

No worries Alex. Just send over what ever you want uploaded.
