New local POTA venue

Walkmill Community Woodland Reserve on the site of a coal mine which closed in the 60s is near Moresby Parks, and is somewhere we have been going for walks for years . I remember the big spoil heaps before it was landscaped .

We were up there a few days ago there are lots of paths and small ponds and streams . I often wondered why it was not involved in the scheme . Looking on the POTA site , each country has contact details for people to email with any suggestions for parks to be considered for the scheme .

I got a reply back within half an hour , and the venue was listed and on the map within a couple of days , and as it was a nice day today I thought I would be first to activate . The hf bands have been poor but seemed better in the afternoon so I went up and gave it a go , getting some good contacts on 40/20m . used the linked dipole and the usual G90 at 20w.

thats awsome that richard well done and great photos.

Great spot to operate from . Plenty of places to set up out of the way . Not really suitable for operating from the car this one , unless you have a vertical on the car . There is one end parking space where you could maybe set an EFHW up and run it away from the cars and away from the path on a wet day maybe when nobody else is likely to be out walking ?
