Does anyone know how meshcore nodes will update? obviously an outdoor install will be a lot more difficult to update if it needs taken down to be brought to a PC. Can they be done remotely with a wifi connection to a phone or something?

I’ve taken my mast down, even in a light breeze the 2” medium duty pole (approximately 10 meters) had far to much wobble.. so this weekend will be trying again with heavy duty, also found that the rg8 coax (cheap from amazon) is almost as good as the real rg8 !, and the patch lead I made using FZ400CU had a some what very poorly fitted N connector

My heltec v4 solar repeater, spare heltec v4 board with GPS and the x10 18650 batteries all arrived today, love it when things workout like that.
I’ve put the GPS into the repeater. Just need some dry weather to install it on the shed.
Just a thought Dani…. It would seem kinda mote to use a gps module in a static repeater, as setting the location can be done from the app, also using the gps is a battery drain
Eh, its on a 25w solar panel and it came for free with the Heltec v4 I brough from Aliexpress. I can just swap it out if needs be.

Managed to get a longer 3m aerial pole from Tool Station today, with the shed being 2m tall, should put the antenna (on a 3m extension cable) at roughly 5m height eventually (once the 3m N to N extension cable arrives).
My brother is coming over tomorrow to give me a hand with fitting the bracket to the shed, so hopefully by the evening it should be up and running in a temp config. Ill take some pics after.
Great news. Just a question. What cable are you using? At 868mhz the losses in poor cable is massive. I always recommend connecting the antenna directly to the board without cable.

LMR400 50ohm shielded N male to N female.
I’ll just see how it goes. The next idea would be to keep the antenna directly on the node at the top of the 3m pole and just use an extension cable from the solar to the node so that the weight of the solar panel isn’t at the top of pole in the wind.

From researching my own ‘issues’ LMR400 @ 800- 900 ‘ish Meg has an insertion loss of 13db / 100 meters… sooooooooooo .13 per meter gives a loss of 0.39 + the extra loss of a couple of connectors. Indeed its a loss but yer gota do what you gota do, I know what I did, lol
And another thing that I’ve found out (after the event… yet again) the Heltec Meshtastic T114 V2 same power output as the Heltec V3 has a much lower ‘sleeping’ current and thus is far more suitable for use as a solar repeater. ![]()

roof for solar panel, tall enough to get a decent antenna in, big enough for a good bunch of batteries too and handling bats is illegal, as is checking to see if they’re roosting inside a batbox without a qualified handler. so they’re pretty hands off for anyone who finds one. also perfectly legal to install.
I’ve got a spangly new v4 in the loft now, Its only on a vertical so might not be very good. So any reports would be handy before I go and buy / make a yagi
