Meshcore ! I think its better than Meshtastics!

Theres mine, i thought that would be in the way. that green mound is where the big Mast is thats blocking us. your going need to try the nodes on the mountains or build one to put on top of the hills near you.

Yeah figured as much. I wonder if sending out a yagi signal that way would recieve anyway. I am recieving data from the Workington Allotment and the landscape to that radio is a lot worse than this.

What is this area on the map just near the transmit tower at Broughton Moor?

That whole area is LOS and if there was a solar repeater near we’d probably be golden. All of this is moot without me getting a yagi positioned though.

What is the node called you’ve set up? just to see if i can recieve it at all.

@M7NCY it wont matter what you pick up it will link into the mesh network.

cumbriaCQ.com RPT 1 and Loft Repeater you should see here.

You do need to get the antenna outside as well not indoors.

The map i uploaded is where i am theres a field in the way higher than me

Maybe build a little solar repeater node and stick it in Broughton Moor Dumps?

Lee

I forgot to say @M7NCY you won’t get an instant ping on all of the nodes. They only alert every 12 hours. Your best putting a test message out on the public chat or the local chat using the qr code from https://meshcorecumbria.co.uk

Lee

Ah i see. Yeah i’ll work out best way to get my current antenna outside ASAP. Be interesting to see if the Broughton Moor nodes pop up in the next few days. Interesting seeing the strength of the Allotment repeater considering what’s in the way.

yes if you can see that node you should see the rest. I think Steve said he was having issues with that node @Steve

I’m having a bizarre issue with it atm. But it’s maybe a firmware bug I need to check with meshcore. If I run a trace route from meshcorecumbria node to MCC allotment is repeatedly fails. However if I ping the MCC allotment direct it seems to “wake it up” then trace routes work again (see image below). It’s my only node that behaves this way though.

I think this is what happened to mccpop kells i couldn’t ping it or Trace it. I also think if one of us is remoted into it reading telemetry the others cant get in or the session never ends.

I woke up today at 3am and I tried the remote ping etc and it all worked I could access all the nodes telemetry etc. Maybe someone was logged in when you were doing ping tests.

Try it again at 3am lol

That’s really odd. I can login and trace route to it again now. And MCC allotment seems to have settled down too. Maybe there was whatever the reverse of a lift is happening for me yesterday. Haha.

Looks like Kells has a pretty decent connection out to 4 nodes so far!

Maybe we were all trying to remote into the repeaters steve for a status report. I know I was. I woke up at 3am this morning and I could access all of them even ones in beckermet and get a status report

@M7NCY i can see your node on the mesh network now

I got your message through @M5LEE I was out and about in workington earlier with my companion radio. I recieved your message in the public channel with the following routing you probably picked me up while i was in town, and the message got to me while i was home. so i can pick up the allotment periodically. be probably a week or longer before i can get my antenna positioned more favourably.

Yes I picked you up. Works great round workington. I doubt we will get a link from you to here but there’s new nodes going up all over the place. Im going to put Lens new repeater up in Whitehaven soon as it comes. Right on top of moresby

What’s the setup of the Allotment Repeater?

Its @Steve s repeater he can answer

It’s an 8.5bd omni antenna from Mcgillmicrowave.com on a 3m pole. Using a seeed studio ESP32S3 AND Wio SX1262 plugged into a 5v supply.

Hi, I’m new here, recently moved back to Cumbria.

I live about halfway between Dalston/Rosley and I’m looking at setting up a fix solar powered meshtastic node with a much larger antenna, may be able to set up a Meshcore but I’ve never used Meshcore before, all my handheld nodes are meshtastic as it’s easier for the family to use as mobile signal sucks here.

I’m not sure on the range of Meshcore but from looking at OS maps, I’m at 100m elevation and there seems to be almost line of sight to Dumfries.

Im not very knowledgeable about radio, basically only used them from boats when I used to teach sailing and when I used to work 999 for the Ambulance Service, so apologies in advance for my ignorance

Would my location be of help at all?

OS Map screenshot:

Hi @Dani welcome to Cumbria CQ.

We have all mostly moved over to Meshcore. Reson being is for me, im high up near Maryport and on RF ive never really got any RF contacts. Also Meshtastics only works default 3 hops, 7 hops if you program it in. Meshcore will hop up to 64 repeaters !

Since moving on to Meshcore, im now in costant contact with Maryport, Workington, Whiehaven ST Bees etc.

Im waiting for 2 yagi beams and one of them will be pointed in your direction (North) of me.

If I was you id look into Meshcore as the main Repeater. You would need to visit meshcore website and flash a repeater firmware to the outside kit. Then you would need a Client to access it.

I do have a Meshtastics MQTT Server setup and that was the only way we could talk to each other using internet. Meshcore for me and other is all RF.

More info On Meshcore here https://meshcore.co.uk/

Please dont be scared to ask questions in here

p.s some of us have been buying these Outdoor Meshtastic (or MeshCORE repeater) 25W Solar node,+.5.5dBi gain antenna | eBay UK

these are well made bits of kit.

Lee

Hi Lee,

It was what I was going to buy for outside but from the sellers Etsy shop (I think its the same seller as ebay).

https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/4310813646/complete-meshtastic-or-meshcore-25w10w

I definitely want a solar powered one, I get power cuts all the time here, frequently enough that I bought a 2000wh power station that acts as a UPS for my work laptop and Starlink.

Thanks for the links for Meshcore, from what I can see on the YouTube video, Meshcore is almost identical with the phone app for text messages.

Im guessing that if you have a yagi pointed my way and I had a yagi pointed back, I’d need an additional outdoor node with omni antenna for my surrounding area to connect my handheld devices?
